Give us a call or stop by during normal business hours, and we’ll talk about cryotherapy with you to determine if it is advisable for your circumstances.

What is Cryotherapy Like?

Our patients are usually a little concerned about cryotherapy being too cold or even hurting them a little bit. That is why we try to remind our patients what the purpose of cryotherapy is. We already know that ice works for pain in general, whether it’s ice in a bag or a bathtub full of ice, the cold temperatures can reduce pain and inflammation. However, the comparison of cryotherapy to ice is like comparing a full night’s sleep to a catnap. It’s a completely different level, and it causes a totally different reaction in the body!

After you exit the cryotherapy chamber, your brain takes over, and for the following 36-48 hours, your brain begins to target those areas of pain or inflammation. The brain targets these areas with red blood cells and endorphins during this period.

Why Do People Get Cryotherapy?

Many of our patients are individuals who are suffering from pain, anxiety, sports injuries, debilitating conditions, and even individuals who are receiving chemotherapy – a cancer treatment that can cause neuropathy. Cryotherapy can often be used in conjunction with chemotherapy to reduce the chances of a patient developing neuropathy.

Cold packs are a new option for patients who are at risk of developing neuropathy. Studies show that patients who wear cold packs during chemotherapy can avoid developing neuropathy. Of course, we don’t treat chemotherapy at Defy Cryotherapy and Float, but we do promote and encourage the use of cryotherapy and a holistic approach to better health.

Is Cryotherapy Safe?

Cryotherapy is completely safe. Cryotherapy is a matter of running cold air over the surface of the skin, and it only goes about a millimeter deep. However, you will be required to wear gloves and boots in the cryotherapy chamber because any part of you that is an extension of the body gets less blood and is susceptible to frost nips. Fingers and toes – we cover those!

History of Cryotherapy

The use of cold temperatures for therapeutic purposes can be traced back to ancient civilizations. The Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans all utilized cold therapies to treat various ailments. The modern concept of cryotherapy, however, originated in Japan in the late 1970s. Japanese doctor Toshima Yamaguchi developed a method of exposing the body to cold temperatures to treat rheumatoid arthritis. This method, known as whole-body cryotherapy, gained popularity in Europe and eventually spread to other parts of the world.

Types of Cryotherapy

There are different types of cryotherapy treatments available, depending on the specific needs and goals of the individual. Some common types of cryotherapy include:

  • Whole-Body Cryotherapy: This involves exposing the entire body to extremely cold temperatures, typically ranging from -200 to -300 degrees Fahrenheit, for a short duration, usually 2-3 minutes. This treatment is often used for pain management, reducing inflammation, boosting the immune system, and improving athletic performance.
  • Localized Cryotherapy: Unlike whole-body cryotherapy, localized cryotherapy targets specific areas of the body. It involves using a cryotherapy device to apply freezing temperatures to a specific body part, such as a joint or muscle, for targeted pain relief and reducing inflammation.
  • Cryofacial: Cryofacial involves using cold temperatures to rejuvenate and tighten the skin on the face. A controlled stream of cold nitrogen is applied to the face, stimulating collagen production and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Each type of cryotherapy has its own benefits and applications, and it is important to consult with a healthcare professional before undergoing any cryotherapy treatment to ensure it is suitable for your specific needs.

Overall, cryotherapy is a unique and innovative therapy that harnesses the power of cold temperatures for various health and wellness benefits. From ancient civilizations to modern medicine, cryotherapy continues to provide individuals with a refreshing way to improve their overall well-being.

 Cryotherapy Benefits

Benefits for Athletic Performance

Cryotherapy has gained popularity among athletes for its potential benefits in enhancing performance and aiding in recovery. Some of the benefits of cryotherapy for athletic performance include:

  • Reduced muscle soreness and inflammation: Cryotherapy may help to reduce muscle soreness and inflammation caused by intense physical activity. The cold temperature can promote vasoconstriction, which helps reduce swelling and inflammation in the muscles.
  • Improved muscle recovery: Cryotherapy may promote faster muscle recovery by increasing blood flow and oxygen to the muscles. This can help remove waste products such as lactic acid and reduce muscle fatigue.
  • Enhanced energy and endurance: Cryotherapy may stimulate the release of endorphins, which can improve mood and provide a natural energy boost. This can lead to improved endurance and performance during training or competitions.

Benefits for Pain Relief and Recovery

Cryotherapy has shown potential benefits for pain relief and recovery from various injuries or chronic conditions. Some of the benefits of cryotherapy for pain relief and recovery include:

  • Reduced pain and inflammation: Cryotherapy can help reduce pain and inflammation by numbing the affected area and constricting blood vessels. This can provide temporary relief for conditions such as arthritis, muscle strains, or joint pain.
  • Accelerated healing and tissue repair: The cold temperature in cryotherapy promotes blood vessel constriction and then dilation, which can stimulate the production of collagen and enhance tissue repair. This can be beneficial for healing wounds, post-surgery recovery, or injury rehabilitation.
  • Improved joint mobility: Cryotherapy can temporarily relieve joint pain and stiffness, allowing for improved range of motion and flexibility. This can be particularly helpful for individuals with conditions such as osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.

Cryotherapy can be a little shocking the first time. There’s no water as cold as the steam in cryotherapy on earth, so your brain has no frame of reference. The first time is the hardest. However, after completing cryotherapy, you will experience a massive endorphin rush, which is massively invigorating! Contact Defy Cryotherapy & Float for affordable cryotherapy in Egypt today.

I visited Defy Egypt several times and I was amazed by the quality of their services and the professionalism of their staff. I tried their zero gravity massage, it was a refreshing and invigorating experience that left me feeling energized and rejuvenated. The staff was very friendly and explained everything to me before and during the session. They also gave me some tips on how to maintain my wellness and improve my health. I also enjoyed their float therapy, which is a relaxing and meditative practice that involves floating in a tank filled with warm water and Epsom salt. It was like being in a state of zero gravity, where all my stress and tension melted away. I felt very calm and peaceful after the session, and I noticed that my sleep quality improved as well. The tank was very clean and comfortable, and the staff provided me with everything I needed, such as ear plugs, towels and shampoo. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to experience the best of wellness in Egypt.
